The Lithuanian soprano Violeta Urmana will appear at Prague Spring

The Lithuanian soprano Violeta Urmana, a regular guest on the world’s leading operatic stages including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Vienna State Opera, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London, and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, will appear at Prague Spring on 24 May in a programme featuring the music of Mahler and Strauss.

In 2009, concerning her interpretation of Richard Strauss, the German newspaper Berliner Morgenpost wrote: “Urmana is the exact embodiment of what Hofmannsthal and Strauss are talking about in this masterpiece [Ariadne auf Naxos]: Music is a holy art.’” This late-Romantic, emotionally charged music is a natural match for the dark timber of her voice (she began as a mezzo-soprano).

We can also look forward to hearing the outstanding Bamberg Symphony Orchestra conducted by the congenial Jonathan Nott. He has collaborated with the Vienna Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra etc. Since the year 2000 he has been the principal conductor of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. Concerning the association of the Bamberg orchestra with maestro Nott, the British newspaper The Guardian wrote: “Together, I think they’ve created one of the most exciting partnerships in orchestra music of the last 9 years.”

Take advantage of the chance to hear a first-class performance of this magnificent late-romantic programme in Prague. Additional performances are planned for this June in Paris and Baden-Baden.
