The Lithuanian film Isaac comes to Prague with the long-awaited Febiofest film festival

This weekend, the Prague International Film Festival Febiofest in cooperation with the Embassy of Lithuania in the Czech Republic will present the film Isaac (2019) by the Lithuanian director Jurgis Matulevičius. The annual film festival was supposed to take place in spring but was postponed due to the pandemic.

Lithuania is represented by the historical drama of the "film noir" aesthetics, based on the short story of the same name by the Lithuanian classic and emigrant Antanas Škėma. It is the first Lithuanian feature film with a topic that has been the subject of many discussions recently, namely the role of Lithuanians in the Holocaust. The leads are Aleksas Kazanavičius, Severija Janušauskaitė, Dainius Gavenonis. Director Jurgis Matulevičius, the author of short films, was nominated for the Best Debut Award at the Tallinn Film Festival for his feature debut.

The 27th Febiofest continues its traditional programs such as Industry Days for film professionals and film school students, and also hosts the Amnesty International Febiofest Award for the sixth time, focusing on freedom and human rights in film. Among the novelties presented this year is the Main Competition, which will feature seven of the latest authorial pictures by emerging world-class directors. There is also a new Comedy section, focused on art-house style comedic pictures that reflect modern-day realities. Some films will visit other Czech cities after the festival ends in Prague.

Isaac will be shown on September 18, 19 and 20 in the Slovanský dům cinema.
