Minister L. Linkevičius visited Prague
November 25-26 Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius had a two day working visit to the Czech Republic and met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomír Zaorálek to discuss bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade and security, geopolitical situation in the region. Both Foreign Ministers highlighted the common approach and successful cooperation within the European Union, NATO, the United Nations and other international organizations.
Special attention was dedicated to the situation in Ukraine. “When speaking of Ukraine we need to understand that the context is much wider. It doesn’t matter whether the country is big or small - no one has the right to decide for it. When we speak about Ukraine today, we speak about the entire pan-European security architecture” said L. Linkevičius.
The Czech Foreign Minister confirmed the determination to continue participation in NATO’s Air Policing mission in Lithuania. He underlined that defence cooperation was and would remain one of the most important priorities. In the short run, the Czech Republic will delegate a national expert to the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence in Vilnius.
Minister also participated in the round table “Changing Security Environment in Europe” for local experts and diplomats organised by Lithuanian Embassy together with Association for International Affairs (AMO).
The visit of Minister L. Linkevičius also included meetings with Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Jan Hamáček, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Karel Schwarzenberg and Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty leadership, interviews to local and international media.
