March 11th celebration marked with concerts in Prague and Brno

March 8 to 9, in Prague and Brno, two concerts of the Baltic Guitar Quartet were held on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of restoration of the Lithuanian independence. For the second year in a row Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Prague marks this day with a presentation of modern, future-focused Lithuanian musicians. Concerts in two outstanding venues had a numerous audience who are now becoming regular fans of Lithuanian music.

The ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in Prague Edvilas Raudonikis expressed his pride in the 27th anniversary of Lithuanian independence and emphasized the importance of this opportunity to celebrate Lithuania’s place on the European and World maps, as well as to thank the international community for supporting his country’s journey to freedom.

To the members of the diplomatic corps, Lithuanian community and the Prague audience the musicians of the quartet Chris Ruebens, Zigmas Čepulėnas, Sergej Krinicin and Saulius S. Lipčius performed the compositions by Astor Piazzolla, Chris Ruebens, Antonín Dvořák, Jonas Tamulėnas, Johannes Brahms and Alfred Schnittke.

The same programme was presented in the Brno chamber music hall of the Merciful Brothers, where the representatives of Brno municipality and other Moravian towns were present, as well as friends of the embassy from the cultural and academic institutions, students of the Baltic studies centre of the Masaryk University, members of Lithuanian community and Brno chamber music lovers.

Concerts of the Baltic Guitar Quartet in the Czech Republic took place by the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Prague, with the support of Lithuanian Council for Culture and in cooperation with Baltic Culture Management Centre, City of Brno and the honorary consul of Lithuania in Brno Petr Sláčala.
