Lithuania’s Long-time Friend Senator Fischer Receives Lithuanian State Award
Lithuania’s long-time friend and supporter, Senator Pavel Fischer, was decorated with the Lithuanian state award at the Lithuanian Embassy last night.
Fischer, who is the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security of the Czech Senate, received the Officer's Cross of the Order “For Merits to Lithuania". President Gitana Nausėda issued a corresponding decree in July this year.
Senator Fischer has been distinguished for this active role in strengthening Czech-Lithuanian bilateral relations and promoting democratic values.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Laimonas Talat-Kelpša underlined the far-reaching character of Senator Fischer’s activities, which cover politics, diplomacy, and democratic activism. In the past, Mr. Fischer also ran twice in the Czech presidential election and came third and fourth respectively.
In particular, the ambassador singled out Mr. Fischer’s unrelenting support to Democratic Belarus, Ukraine, as well as his strong and vocal support to Lithuania who had faced Lukashenka’s hybrid attack and China’s coercive economic pressure.
"Sometimes we received the Senator's support without even yet asking for it. It is a great honor and privilege to have such a friend", said the ambassador.
For his part, Senator Fischer stressed the organic nature of his warm and friendly attachment to Lithuania. “At all levels, Lithuania bravely fights for the principles that are important to all people who value freedom and democracy”, he said. He also thanked for the high recognition of his work.
More than a hundred of guests attended the gala event at the Lithuanian Embassy, including the members of the diplomatic corps, the Czech Senate and House of Representatives, prominent cultural figures, media representatives, members of the Czech Lithuanian community.
