Lithuanian films in Prague festival

Central European film festival ’New Waves New Ways’ started at the Prague City Hall library (Mariánské náměstí 1, Praha-Staré Město) on 4th November . The festival takes place two years in a row. Its aim is to introduce new documentaries as well as feature films participating at the festival, to the Prague audience. “Rays from the Central Europe” (subtext of the festival) – embraces works of such countries as Albania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Lithuania

The Festival is under patronage of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and Prague City Council.

Active organiser is Romanian Institute of Culture cooperating with the Embassies of participating countries and their Institutes of Culture in Prague.

Two works by Lithuanian directors will be shown 6 November at 9 p.m. Animated documentary – director Giedré Beinoriuté - ‘Once Upon a Time there Lived an Old Man & His Wife' (2007, 30 minutes). The director tells the story of her grandparents who were sent to Siberia during soviet times.

The other is a documentary directed by Jolanta & Rimantas Gruodis. Their film was awarded ‘best short documentary‘ at the Karlovy Vary film festival this year. ‘The River’ ( 2009, 30 minutes) tells the story of a village that is separated from  the outer world by the river.
