LITHUANIAN COMMUNITY IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC - ANNUAL MEETING

The nineteenth meeting of the Lithuanian community in the Czech Republic took place 21- 23 May 2010 in Prague. Representatives from the Lithuanian communities of Austria and Hungary came too.A welcoming speech was delivered by the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in the Czech Republic Aurimas Taurantas.

Community members from different parts of the country not only got acquainted with the places of interest of Prague but commemorated the 20th Anniversary of the restoration of the independence of Lithuania and marked the 6000th anniversary of the Žalgiris (Grunwald) battle. Discussions on important issues for the community took place and the community‘s chairman was re- elected. It is Sigitas Adomavičius.
Everybody was pleased to welcome two folk music groups from Lithuania: Steponas Darius & Stasys Girénas Secondary school folk music group from Šiluté and Ethnoclub from Šiauliai. Participants had a nice opportunity to dance with the performers!
Lithuanian Community in the Czech Republic has annual meetings which usually take place last weekend in May. Next year it will be the twentieth meeting & it will take place in Loket, western part of the country. The first ever meeting took place back in1989.
