Lithuanian Ambassador Visits Liberec: Regional Cooperation Enhances Lithuania-Czech Ties

Liberec, October 29 – Ambassador of Lithuania to the Czech Republic, Rolandas Kačinskas, visited Liberec, where he met with regional Governor Martin Půta and Mayor Jaroslav Zámečník. During the visit, they discussed specific opportunities for cooperation between Lithuania and the Czech Republic at regional and city levels, aimed at fostering mutual progress and strengthening the ties between the two countries.

Ambassador Kačinskas highlighted the importance of regional and municipal collaboration, stating, “Lithuania is eager to build ties with the Czech Republic not only at the national level but also through regions and cities. These connections allow for a deeper mutual understanding and stronger bilateral relations. Regional diplomacy should be based on concrete solutions and targeted actions that address common challenges on both sides.”

One example of this collaboration was a discussion with Mayor Zámečník about Liberec’s participation in the EU’s "100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities" initiative, aiming for the city to achieve climate neutrality by 2030. They explored opportunities for sharing experiences with Vilnius and Tauragė, two Lithuanian cities also involved in this program. The talks emphasized the importance of energy efficiency and sustainable transportation to create climate-friendly solutions.

Ambassador Kačinskas, together with Governor Půta, also attended a public meeting with members of the Czech Army’s 31st Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Defense Regiment, who had served in Lithuania as part of NATO's forward presence. The soldiers shared insights from their time in Lithuania, underscoring the value of allied unity. The Ambassador expressed gratitude for their role in safeguarding NATO's eastern flank and reinforcing the Alliance’s collective defense.

Liberec, the fifth-largest city in the Czech Republic, is located in Northern Bohemia, near the Polish and German borders. The city is known for its longstanding industrial traditions and a thriving tourism sector. It also hosts an Honorary Consulate of Lithuania, which plays an active role in strengthening the partnership between Lithuania and the Czech Republic and fostering cultural exchanges.
