February 16th reminded in Prague

On February 16th the anniversary of the Restoration of the Lithuanian Independence was commemorated by placing flowers at the memorial plaque of Dr Jonas Basanavicius in Prague.
In 1883, Basanavicius wrote a key text for the Lithuanian national revival movement, a preface for the "Dawn" newspaper. The main achievement of the national revival movement was the Act of Lithuanian Independence, signed on February 16th in 1918. In 2013 on the house on Balbinova Street in Prague 2, in which Basanavicius has lived and worked from 1883 to 1884, a memorial plaque was unveiled.
