EU and NATO Ambassadors Join Forces in Supporting Ukraine with Metal Detector Donation

To mark the third anniversary of Russia’s brutal aggression against Ukraine, on February 24, ambassadors from EU and NATO countries residing in Prague presented a metal detector to the Ukrainian Embassy, purchased with their personal funds.

This initiative, supporting Ukraine, was launched for the third consecutive year by the Lithuanian Embassy in Prague.

The metal detector, a CEIA CMD model made by an Italian manufacturer, was handed over to the Ukrainian Embassy. The project was implemented in cooperation with the Lithuanian defense industry company “Defence Projects.” The initiative was supported by 25 ambassadors from EU and NATO countries based in Prague. The metal detector was purchased with the funds raised, while the remaining donations were transferred to the Olena Zelenska Support Fund for Ukraine.

“Today, we stand here not just as diplomats, but as individuals who refuse to be passive observers of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine; we support Ukrainians not only with words but also with deeds. In the future, demining will be one of Ukraine’s greatest challenges, which is why we’ve acquired a compact mine detector—an essential tool that will help clear Ukrainian land, paving the way for renewal and hope,” said Lithuania’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Rolandas Kačinskas, while presenting the gift.

According to Kačinskas, this gift carries special significance as Lithuania leads the Demining Capability Coalition for Ukraine.

In his gratitude, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Vasyl Zvarych, stated: “Thirty percent of Ukraine’s territory is mined. I thank the Lithuanian Embassy for its ongoing initiative and this valuable gift – it is an investment in Ukraine’s safe future. I have no doubt that this metal detector will help save many lives. Thank you for standing with the people of Ukraine, and I want to assure you that the people of Ukraine are with you—they are fighting for all our freedom.”

At the invitation of the Polish Embassy, which currently chairs the Ukrainian Embassy in Prague, members of the Prague diplomatic corps gathered today to express their support for Ukraine.

In addition, the Lithuanian Embassy in the Czech Republic, along with representatives from other diplomatic missions, contributed to the "Noise for Ukraine" protest concert at the United Islands Music Festival in Prague. This public event, held for the second year outside the Russian Embassy in Prague, brings together Ukrainian supporters this evening.
