DISCUSSION ON EXTERNAL POLICY PRIORITIES TO START THE PROGRAMME OF LITHUANIAN EU PRESIDENCY

July 1st Lithuania is taking over the EU Council Presidency from Ireland. To mark this occasion Embassy of Lithuania in cooperation with the Representation of the European Commission  is organising a discussion on the external priorities of the Lithuanian Presidency on Tuesday, July the 2nd,at 10a.m. The discussion will focus on topical problems concerning the EU enlargement, Eastern partnership, free trade, external borders safety, European security policy, energy security and European External Action Service review.

The meeting will start with the address of Mr. Aurimas Taurantas, the Ambassador ofLithuania in Prague.  He will present priorities ofthe Lithuanian Presidency. The Czech positions will be reflected by the First Vice minister of Foreign Affairs of the ČR Mr. Jiři Schneider; the insights representing parliamentary point of view will be shared by Jan Bauer, Chairman of the European Committee of the Chamber of Deputies. Positions of the European Commission will be presented by the Head of Representation of the European Commission Mr. Jan Michal. There will also be opportunity to hear opinions of members of the Prague think-tanks Glopolis and European Values. The discussion will be moderated by Mr.Tomáš Weiss, head of Department of West European Studies from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Charles University in Prague.

Lithuania is the first of the Baltic Statesto lead the EU Council and to represent interests of all the EU member countries. The discussion, which will take place in the European House (Jungmannova 24, Prague1) on July 2nd, will launch the program of events dedicated to the Lithuanian EU Council Presidency.
