Diplomatic Unity in Prague: Nordic and Baltic Embassies Celebrate National Days Together

Prague, May 14, 2025 — In a powerful display of regional solidarity and shared values, the Embassies of the Nordic and Baltic countries (NB8) held a joint celebration of their National Days in Prague’s historic J. Fanta Hall, located at the city’s central railway station. This year’s event, centered around the theme of "Connectivity", brought together around 400 distinguished guests.

The unique setting — Prague’s main railway station — was chosen to highlight not only physical connections such as infrastructure and transport, but also the deeper political, historical, and cultural ties that unite the region and bind it to the Czech Republic. In a special gesture of solidarity, Ukraine participated as an honorary guest of the NB8 group.

The reception featured the participation of the Embassies of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden. Representing the Czech Republic, President of the Senate Miloš Vystrčil delivered welcoming remarks. Referring to the motto of the first Czechoslovak President T. G. Masaryk — “Truth Prevails”, inscribed in the event hall — he emphasized the importance of action behind words:

“For truth to prevail, it is not enough to write it on the wall. It requires unity, courage, and mutual trust from those who defend it. On this occasion, I thank all representatives of the Baltic and Nordic countries — we trust in you and your unwavering support.”

The event underscored a wide spectrum of "connectivity": from infrastructure and physical links to shared democratic values and geopolitical cooperation. Speakers reiterated steadfast support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s aggression, commended the Czech Republic for its contribution to strengthening NATO’s eastern flank, and emphasized the importance of democracy, rule of law, human rights, media freedom, and international law.

“This is the only diplomatic event of its kind in Europe — and perhaps the world,” said Ambassador of Lithuania Rolandas Kačinskas. “It reflects a growing sense of shared identity and unity within the Nordic-Baltic region, as well as solidarity with Ukraine.”

The celebration featured performances of the European and Czech anthems by the Cancionata choir. Guests were invited to explore national tables from each country, offering traditional cuisine. Lithuania presented one of its culinary symbols — Džiugas cheese. Video showcases of each nation’s culture, history, and modern achievements were also screened throughout the evening.

Now in its 17th edition, the joint NB8 National Day celebration in Prague continues to serve as a symbol of regional partnership, mutual trust, and unity in action.
