A WAVE OF LITHUANIAN FILMS IN PRAGUE
The end of November 2012 brings to Prague a wave of Lithuanian films. Cinema of Visual Silence micro-festival will present Audrius Stonys, the acclaimed Lithuanian cinematographer renowned for carrying in the tradition of Lithuania’s unique poetic documentary. The festival will give Prague an opportunity to see the retrospective of his work from three distinct stages of A.Stonys career, including his latest work filmed in Georgia - “Ramin”.
On November 28, at 6:00 p.m., Kino Mat (Karlovo nám. 19, Prague 2) will screen A.Stonys’ “Alone” (2011) and “Ramin” (2011), later followed by a meeting with the author moderated by the famous Czech filmmaker Miroslav Janek.
On December 3, at 8:30 p.m., A.Stonys’ films “Earth of the Blind” (1992) and “Ūkų Ūkai” (2006) will be included in the program of Svetozor cinema (Vodičkova 41, Prague) Documentary Monday.
Andrius Stonys visit to Prague is organised by the Embassy of Lithuania in Prague, and partnered by FAMU (Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague) and Prague Film School. The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
The last week of November will also bring Lithuanian Film Days to the Municipal Library of Prague (Mariánské nám. 1, Prague 1). The event, taking place from November 30 to December 1, is organized by the Scandinavian House in Prague and will offer viewers a chance to see some of the films belonging to the Lithuanian Golden Foundation. A film that is considered to be the pinnacle of Lithuanian cinematography – “Beauty” (1969) by A.Žebriūnas – will also be shown. The festival will be led by the patron for Lithuanian film in the Czech Republic, Dagmar Váňová.
European House (Jungmannova 24, Praha 1) will also join the week of Lithuanian film with the screening of Šarūnas Bartas celebrated film Eastern Drift. On November 21, at 7:00 p.m., the movie will fill the program of the European House Movie Wednesdays.
