20TH ANNIVERSARY OF DEFENDING FREEDOM OF LITHUANIA COMMEMORATED AT THE LITHUANIAN EMBASSY IN PRAGUE

21 January Lithuanian community in the Czech Republic as well as friends of Lithuania came to the Embassy to commemorate 20 years of defending the Freedom.13 January 1991 that has exceptional value in Lithuania’s recent history of retaining and strengthening the Independence was remembered. A documentary film by the studio A Propos “13 January” and an extract from the recent film „Bonfires near the Parliament” by the cameraman Mr.Leonas Vytautas Glinskis were shown, thus paying homage to the victims fallen for the freedom of Lithuania in those days.

Signatory of the Act of Re-establishment of the Independence of Lithuania, Ambassador Aurimas Taurantas, who was the active member of the events, spoke about his experience inside the Parliament. Memories of those days were shared by active supporters from the Czech & Lithuanian communities: translator Mrs. Alena Vlčkova, Mr. Mečislovas Maraulas - ex President of the Lithuanian community and others.Everybody who 20 years ago - in one way or another participated in activities helping Lithuania in its difficult road to Freedom were thanked for the support, support which also contributed to disappearance of the dividing line separating Europe. According to Ambassador A.Taurantas, January 1991 in Lithuania was a turning point not only in Lithuanian history but in the whole Central and East European region because the tanks seized to move on in Vilnius.
