On 6 May, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Darius Skusevičius met with the new Ambassador of Georgia to Lithuania Levan Gvachliani.

"We fully support Georgia's aspirations to integrate into the European Union and NATO, and we will continue our high-level political dialogue," said the Foreign Vice-Minister D. Skusevičius, when congratulating the newly-appointed Ambassador. The Foreign Vice-Minister also expressed hope that relations between Lithuania and Georgia would continue to strengthen during the new Ambassador's tenure in our country. In addition, the meeting also discussed the importance of the Eastern Partnership initiative that marked the 10th anniversary in 2019.

On the same day, the Ambassador of Georgia presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė. L. Gvachliani is the fifth head of Georgia's diplomatic representation, who resides in Vilnius. In September, Lithuania and Georgia will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations. 2019 also marks a centenary of Lithuania's representation in Transcaucasia, which operated from 1919 to 1921 in Tbilisi.
