Lithuania's Foreign Minister meets with Director of International Jewish Affairs at American Jewish Committee
On 8 May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Director of International Jewish Affairs at the American Jewish Committee (AJC) Andrew Baker and the U.S. Ambassador to Lithuania Anne Hall. The meeting was also attended by Faina Kukliansky, Chair of the Lithuanian Jewish Community.
Lithuania's Foreign Minister shared his impressions of the unveiling of the monument to the Lithuanian partisan commander Adolfas Ramanauskas in a suburb of Chicago - Lemont - the U.S. The Foreign Minister reiterated that disinformation was being spread recently, which was just another attempt to discredit the armed Anti-Soviet resistance in Lithuania.
"Some cases of Lithuanian partisans' collaboration with the Nazis have been exploited to spread disinformation, to tarnish the guerilla war, and to undermine the reputation of the Lithuanian partisan commander A. Ramanauskas-Vanagas, regardless of the fact that his impeccable reputation has been repeatedly confirmed by independent experts," said L. Linkevičius.
The meeting also discussed the restitution of the Jewish private property, as well as issues related to the activities of the International Commission for the Evaluation of the Crimes of the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania.
