Foreign Minister confers Lithuania's Diplomacy Star on Dr. Jonas Daugirdas
On 3 May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius conferred the award of honor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Lithuania's Diplomacy Star – on Dr. Jonas Daugirdas, member of the Board of Directors of the Chicago Lithuanian newspaper “Draugas” (“The Friend”), editor of the “Lithuanian Heritage” magazine.
J. Daugirdas was awarded the highest decoration of the Foreign Ministry for his lifelong contribution to fostering the Lithuanian national identity through the preservation of its cultural and historical heritage. In addition, he consistently rallied and supported his compatriots both in the U.S. and Lithuania. " This is real diplomacy," said the Foreign Minister L. Linkevičius.
The Foreign Minister also gave a thank you gift to the editor of the Lithuanian newspaper “Draugas” Ramunė Lapas.
Dr. J. Daugirdas was born in 1949, in Boston, the U.S. In 1981, Dr. Daugirdas was the secretary of the Lithuanian - American Medical Association and the director of medical programs. From 1985 to 1987, he served as the president of the Lithuanian - American Medical Association. He also supports the Kaunas and Vilnius Jesuit Gymnasiums in Lithuania. Dr. J. Daugirdas consistently promotes patriotic education of the Lithuanian youth. His own children, who are dedicated to fostering the Lithuanian national identity, also set a good example for others.
